“My child fought incredibly hard; she was so strong. My life revolved around my children. I know how I raised them and how hard I fought. We are devastated; there is nothing left,” said the heartbroken mother from Agrinio, who lost both her children in a tragic traffic accident.
Eighteen-year-old Haritini, who had been critically injured in the crash that claimed the life of her 20-year-old brother, Akis, passed away today.
“Where can I find the strength when I think about my children, their dreams were cut short. One was 18 years old, and the other was 20. So unfair, so unfair,” she said to Star. “Two kids full of dreams. My Haritini was an athlete, a champion, a first-year student… so full of dreams. My boy, full of dreams for life, worked tirelessly all summer,” she added.
The funeral for Haritini will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Lefka, Agrinio, at 3:00 PM, at the Church of Panagia Axion Esti, according to agrinionews.gr.
The Timeline of Events
The accident occurred on November 2 along the Antirrio-Ioannina National Road, near the Megali Chora junction in Agrinio. It involved a severe side-on collision between a car and a motorcycle carrying the two young siblings. The car had crossed the highway perpendicular to traffic when the motorcycle, heading towards Amfilochia, collided with it violently.
Twenty-year-old Akis and eighteen-year-old Haritini were riding the motorcycle, while a Roma family was in the car. Akis Karachristos succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash. Since then, the family had been clinging to hope for Haritini, who was being treated in the ICU at Agrinio Hospital.
