A 36-year-old man was remanded in custody while his 62-year-old mother was released under restrictive conditions. Both were arrested last Saturday (November 23), just hours before the groom’s wedding, on charges related to drug and weapons possession, as well as violations of antiquities laws.
They face felony charges for possession and storage of narcotics. The two appeared at the Heraklion Courthouse on Thursday (November 28) to testify. The groom expressed regret, admitting to occasional cocaine use. He claimed the quantity found was procured by friends for shared use after the wedding celebration.
The arrests took place in the Hersonissos municipality during a coordinated police operation by the Heraklion Police Operations Department, following a tip-off. During the operation, the 62-year-old was found in possession of a container with three packages totaling 174.1 grams of cocaine.
Further searches at their residences uncovered 132 bullets of various calibers, two precision scales, an amphora, a statuette, and €3,550 in cash.
