Britain: Queen Camilla and Brigitte Macron together in London for a literary award

Queen Camilla, recovering from pneumonia, shared that she still feels "tired" during a reception at the French Embassy in London

Newsroom December 4 08:15

Four months after the official visit of King Charles and his wife Camila to France, the Queen met today in London with the First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron, to mark the award of a Franco-British literary prize.

The Literary Consensus (Entente littéraire) prize, celebrating the Entente cordiale (Entente cordiale), was presented during the royal visit, in late September 2023, by the Queen, known for her love of books, and Brigitte Macron, a former philologist, to the National Library of France in Paris.

The two women know each other well and kissed each other when they met and when they said goodbye today. In addition, they had a private conversation for more than 15 minutes. Macron offered Camila a book about the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The queen, who has been suffering from pneumonia, confided that she continues to feel “tired” at the reception at the French embassy in London.

For her part, Macron revealed that she and President Macron read daily. “For the president, as for me, there is not a day that we don’t read. Never,” she told guests.

The Literary Consensus Prize was awarded to two authors, French and English-speaking, who write for teenagers and young people: the cartoonist Lucie Brion for “Voleuse” (Thieves) and Manon Stéphane Ross for “The Blue Book of Nebo” (Le Livre Bleu de Nebo).

Neither the Queen nor Macron made any statement at the awards announcement about the political crisis in France and Camilla’s health.
