Two cases that shocked Veroia, the femicide of Kiki Kousoglou and the disappearance of little Alex, were, as ELAS spokeswoman Constantia Demoglidou confessed, the events that marked her and turned her to the choice of becoming a police officer.
As she told Grigoris Arnaoutoglou, the decision to become a police officer “came in the third grade when I said I would follow this profession.”
“There were two events in Veria at the time: one was the femicide of Kiki Kousoglou, she was a friend of my family, it was one of the moments that marked me, and the other was the case of Alex. It gave me a sense of justice because we were waiting for the vindication of the victims,” Demoglidou said.
As the spokeswoman said, “I love the police, I don’t regret it. If I turned back the clock, it would be my first choice.”
Danos Mouratidis: He strangled Kiki Kusoglou and was looking for her in Angeliki Nikolouli
Danos Mouratidis, 23, and 20-year-old Kiki Kousoglou had known each other since they were children. For five years they were a couple. However, fights prevailed because of Mouratidis’ jealousy. Fifteen days before the night of the murder, the two separated. While the 20-year-old girl is sleeping, she takes the opportunity to search her cell phone. As soon as she sees a message from another man, she “blurs”. He wakes her up and they fight. In the middle of the fight, he grabbed her by the throat and strangled her. Immediately afterward, with the help of a cousin, he hid her lifeless body in the Asomaton Dam in Imathia, on the banks of the Aliakmon.
He returned home as if nothing was wrong. Two days later her mother reported her child missing. The police started a search for her without success. One of the first to be called to testify was Danos with an “angelic face.” He had even admitted that he was the last person to see her and referred to a message he had sent her when she told him to break up, which read “as you think. I hope you are happy. Have a good time, kisses”.
In fact, it was so convincing that it even came out in “Light at the Tunnel”. Angeliki Nikolouli chatted with him twice while through the show he appealed for her location. After four months, Mouratidis confessed to his crime and pointed to the El.AS where he had hidden the body of Kiki Kousoglou.
Before the court, he apologized several times to Kiki’s family. “She was the love of my life. We were together for five years, like a married couple. Sometimes we would fight, break up for a month, or three days, and get back together, he said among other things.
How he described the strangulation
“We had broken up two weeks before. We were talking and time passed. She fell asleep while I was watching TV,” she said. He then admitted he checked Kiki’s mobile phone and found a message from another man, then said he woke her up and asked for an explanation for the message. After their argument, the 23-year-old grabbed her by the throat and strangled her.
“I pulled her on top of me. I don’t remember if she screamed or said anything. When I let go of her, she didn’t move. I took her pulse. I found that she wasn’t breathing. That’s when I lost it. I panicked and decided to make her disappear. I don’t know what happened to me. As if it wasn’t me…”, he added.
The court’s sentence was life in prison with no mitigating factors. He was transferred to Diavata prison while his cousin was given a four-year jail sentence. Even today what is surprising is that many girls sent him letters in prison (something similar had happened with “Dragon of Drama” Konstantinos Papachronis).
