The second suspect, allegedly the “mastermind” of a gang accused of extorting Ileia Deputy Regional Governor Nikos Korovesis, is being sent to prison.
After a lengthy deposition, the Investigating Magistrate of Ileia decided to remand the 44-year-old in custody, with the Prosecutor concurring.
The felony charge of professional extortion leveled against the 44-year-old involves his direct involvement in at least two instances of extortion targeting Nikos Korovesis, one in May 2023 and another during the past summer.
According to statements by the Deputy Regional Governor of Ileia, in the first incident, the alleged extortionist reportedly obtained €3,000, and in the second, €18,000.
