Emergency preliminary investigation to identify unknown perpetrators, who dumped dead sheep from smallpox in Almyros ordered the head of the Volos Prosecutor’s Office on Friday night, following a publication of protothema.gr.

The DA has requested the mobilization of the police and the veterinary service, as the dead sheep are a focus of infection and transmission of pox, since other animals that can be infected and transmit smallpox pass through the area since other animals that can be infected and transmit it to herds in the area pass through the area.

In the Almyros area, there is an outbreak of pox, as four cases have been detected in the last week, including three in the last five days.

As part of the preliminary investigation, the unknown perpetrators who dumped the animals, are being sought, with the investigated offences of environmental degradation and violation of measures to prevent diseases in animals.

Also, autopsy reports from the Veterinary Service, as well as inspections in cooperation with the police, will be requested to solve the case immediately.
