Weather update: Sharp temperature drop, strong north winds, and snowfall

High rainfall yesterday in the west and on the islands of the East Aegean - "Snow surprises are coming at Christmas", says Arnaoutoglou

Newsroom December 16 07:41

There will be a drop in temperature today with strong northerly winds prevailing in the Aegean Sea, while according to meteorologists, snow will fall both in the country’s mountains and in Evia. In fact, it is possible that Parnitha and Penteli will be dressed in white.

As OPEN meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis says, “snow will come down and a little further south in mountainous areas of the central mountainous country there near Pelion, Arachova, Kalavrita, a little further south in the Peloponnese will receive snowfall. In Attica it is not excluded that we will see some snowfall in the high parts of Parnitha“.

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias also spoke of snow up to Parnitha in his forecast, who said that “even snow in areas of Attica from Monday is not excluded”.

Arnaoutoglou: “Snow surprises are coming”

“Snow surprises are coming”.
“The weather seems to have surprises in store for Christmas, as snowfall is not excluded during the festive period,” according to Sakis Arnaoutoglou’s forecast, who adds that “from December 20 to 25 there is a possibility of “snow surprises”, as cold air masses from northern and eastern Europe will descend towards the Balkans, possibly bringing snow even to areas of Attica. The cold is expected to affect mainly northern and northeastern Europe, with intervals when it will move southwards towards the Balkans.”

Sakis Arnaoutoglou noted that“it remains to be seen whether this cold mass will reach further south and whether it will be combined with barometric lows to create the conditions for ‘snow surprises’ at Christmas.”
