Good weather will prevail today and tomorrow, but rain and gradual thunderstorms will start from Friday afternoon and from the west, according to Thodoros Kolydas in his forecast.

“Saturday will see showers in most areas and temperatures will drop. The weather will show a temporary improvement on Sunday,” according to the EMF director.

As for his forecast for Christmas, he says the weather will be “as it should be”

For the Christmas weather, Sakis Arnaoutoglou sees “cold air masses” in our neighborhood for the period 23 – 28 December, and therefore also for Christmas. As he said, the barometric low that will be in the Balkans seems to recede just before Christmas but does not disappear.

The question remains whether the cold that will be in the Balkans will meet a barometric low and move down a bit further south. If it comes down further south we will have to see if it will reach southern Greece or stay only in northern Greece. If it comes down further it is sure to give some snowfall.

Sunshine is expected with local and occasional clouds mainly in the eastern and northeastern mainland, the Aegean, and Crete. Visibility will be locally limited until the morning and towards the end of the day.

The temperature in Western Macedonia will range from -2 to 11 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 0 to 15, in Thessaly from 2 to 16, in Epirus and Western Central Greece from 0 to 15, in the rest of Central Greece from 2 to 17, in the Peloponnese from 0 to 16, in the Ionian islands from 4 to 17, in the North and East Aegean islands from 3 to 17, in the Cyclades from 5 to 16, in the Dodecanese from 7 to 17 and in Crete from 4 to 19 degrees Celsius.

The winds in the Aegean will initially blow from variable directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort, with the exception of Thermaikos, the Sporades, and the Dodecanese, where they will initially blow from northwestern directions from 3 to 5 Beaufort. From noon onwards, northerly winds of 3 to 5 Beaufort will gradually prevail. In the Ionian Sea, the winds will prevail from northwestern directions 3 to 5 Beaufort.

In Attica sunshine is expected but from noon local clouds will gradually develop. The winds will be variable, light and in the sea will blow from northern directions 3 to 4 Beaufort, which will gradually turn into western southwestern 4 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly in the northwest, while in other areas it will not change significantly. In the northwest, it will not exceed 11 to 13 degrees Celsius, while in the central, northern mainland, and the northeastern Aegean islands it will reach 14 to 16 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the mainland, the Ionian Sea, the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese it will reach 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, and locally in the south 19 degrees Celsius.

In the west cloudy with local rain which will gradually intensify and from the afternoon there will be sporadic thunderstorms. In the rest of the country a few clouds will gradually increase and after noon there will be local showers in Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, and Crete, and from late in the evening in the northern mainland. At night, the phenomena will intensify on the eastern Aegean islands and sporadic thunderstorms will occur. Visibility in the morning and evening hours in the continent, especially in the west, will be limited in places.

Winds will blow south southwest 4 to 5 Beaufort, in the southern seas 6 and from the evening locally 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly, mainly in the west and north. In the morning and evening hours, there may be frost in the northern mountains.

The weather on Saturday 21-12-2024

Cloudy weather with showers and occasional thunderstorms is forecast throughout the country. The phenomena in places and at times will probably be intense in Thrace, the eastern Aegean islands and Crete. From the afternoon in the Ionian, western, central and southern mainland, they will gradually weaken and become less severe in Thrace, the eastern Aegean islands, Evia, Crete and the Dodecanese. Snow will fall in the west, central, and northern mountainous areas.

Winds will blow south southwest 4 to 6, in the southern seas 7 and locally up to 8 Beaufort, gradually turning in the north and in the Ionian Sea to northerly 5 to 7 and in the southern seas locally 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop further mainly in the west and north.

The weather on Sunday 22-12-2024

In the eastern and southern islands cloudy weather with showers and occasional thunderstorms, possibly locally strong in the early morning hours in the eastern islands with gradual weakening. In the rest of the country unstable weather with some local rain and isolated thunderstorms mainly in the southernmost regions. Some snow will fall in the northern mountains.

Winds will blow from the north at 5 to 7 Beaufort and in the morning hours locally 8 Beaufort in the sea.

The temperature will drop throughout the country. In the morning and evening hours, frost will occur in the northern mountains in some places.
