Following last year’s devastating natural disaster that struck the region and its people, the film festival aims to inspire young people to keep chasing their dreams despite the challenges they face. Because it’s precisely in such adverse circumstances that the role of the Arts proves to be more relevant than ever.
Even though the city’s cinemas are still recovering from the damages they suffered, the festival has received a record-breaking 188 international submissions through the FilmFreeway platform, out of which 12 have been selected for the Official Competition Section, where the 3 Grand Winners will emerge.
Thus, in honor of this year’s event, instead of red carpets and grandiose celebrations, the Argo Film Festival will donate 80% of its proceeds to vulnerable groups in the city, as well as organizations with significant contributions to the area, such as the Union of Large Families of Magnesia and the Hellenic Welfare Association of Volos. It is also worth noting that none of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, specifically Canaropa, 308 Productions, La Tour Melas, Oriflame, Kastaniotis Publications, Volos Palace, Phyto Paris, Native Laboratoire, Panagiotis Karakasis, Karakanas Dairy & Deli, Foto Karmi, Petradi, and Ta Didyma.
Additionally, this year marks another milestone for the festival with the placement of the marble Star of the legendary Rena Vlachopoulou on the wall of the Achillion Cinema on Volos’ seafront, alongside the other stars. The goal is for the Achillion to stand as a timeless monument of tribute to all these figures so that their contributions are never forgotten.
Finally, in collaboration with 1821 Media, the Argo Film Festival continues to support young filmmakers, as was the case with the Greek film Short Fuse, which became the first to be sold to Netflix and later to major platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The A.F.F. immediately recognized the talented and fresh perspective of the two young directors and actively participated in the production of the film. This clearly demonstrates that our country can export high-quality content to the international market and that the future belongs to the younger generations, who chase their dreams and strive to achieve something groundbreaking for Greek standards.
