Chania: Fallen trees and landslides caused by storm Elena – See photos

The services of the Region of Crete are on standby for the snowfall expected during the night hours

Newsroom December 27 02:49

Minor issues were reported on Friday morning (27/12) due to storm Elena, which is affecting the Chania region.

The heavy rain, occurring in intervals, has caused rockfalls along parts of the road network. On the Chania-Kissamos National Road, near Galatas, a small landslide was reported, though it did not disrupt traffic.

Additionally, as stated to ERT by the Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection in Crete, Giorgos Tsapakos, the storm has caused minor issues in the rural road network, particularly in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Chania, including the Kissamos and Selino regions.

According to Mr. Tsapakos, the problems are manageable, and the services of the Region of Crete are prepared for the snowfall expected during the night hours, at elevations of 800 meters and above.

In other areas, strong winds have caused trees and branches to fall, fortunately without any injuries or significant property damage. A notable example is the fall of a large tree in a central square in Chania.
