On Monday, January 13, the winter sales will begin and run through Friday, February 28.
As the Thessaloniki Trade Association said in a statement, stores are allowed to open voluntarily on the first two Sundays of the regular winter sales, i.e. on January 19 and 26, 2025, with suggested opening hours on those two days, from 11:00 to 18:00.
With regard to discounts, it is noted – among other things – that “any announcement of a price reduction shall explicitly indicate the previous price (often referred to as the reference price) based on which the discount is applied. The preceding price is the lowest price applied by the trader to each of its products in the 30 days before the application of the first discount on 13 January.”
It is also stressed that particular attention must be paid to compliance with the provisions on discounts and reduced prices, with the penalties for those who violate the law providing for the imposition of a fine equal to 1% of annual turnover and in any case not less than 10,000 euros.
In the aggravating case where the discounts are proven to be inaccurate or misleading, a fine equal to 2% of annual turnover and in any case not less than 20,000 euros will be imposed.
