In 2024, Greek shipping companies competed in shipbuilding orders, facing stiff competition from the Chinese who have decided to become self-sufficient in maritime transport and not depend heavily on third parties for both import and export trade.
According to the recent report of the shipbroking house Allied Shipbroking, the Greeks are leading by far in orders for tankers which reach 113%, 16.9% of the world order book for this type of ships (666).
They are followed by the Chinese with 57, the Singaporeans with 43, the Japanese with 27 and the Germans with 23.
