The Meteorological Service of the National Observatory of Athens – meteo.gr has compiled and presented the records in precipitation and temperatures recorded in the year 2024 by the network of automatic weather stations.
According to Meteo, the notable meteorological data for the past year are as follows:
– The highest temperature in 2024 was 44.5 degrees Celsius and was recorded on June 13 in Voukolies, Chania.
– The lowest temperature (outside ski resorts and dolines) was -19.8 degrees Celsius and was recorded in Neos Kavkasos, Florina, on 22 January 2024.
– The lowest temperature was recorded in the doline of Vathistalos Parnassos with -23.2 degrees Celsius on January 12, 2024.
The map below shows the 12 highest maximum and 12 lowest minimum temperatures (excluding ski resorts) for 2024.
– 435mm was the highest daily rainfall of the year on December 1 in Simonopetra Athos.
– 2,160 millimetres was the annual rainfall in Askyfu, Chania.
– The winter of 2023-2024 was the warmest in the country’s history.
– The summer of 2024 was the warmest in the country’s history.
– There were 31 weather events with significant social and economic impacts occurred in 2023, a number higher than the average for the 2000-2024 period.
– There were 9 human casualties in 2024, a number less than the average for the 2000-2024 period.

June was a very warm month, with significant positive temperature deviations from normal values in all geographical regions of the country. June also saw the highest temperatures of the whole year in many parts of the country.
July was a very warm month with very significant positive temperature deviations from normal values in all geographical areas of the country. From July 8 to 23, the longest heat wave ever recorded in the country occurred.
August was a month of above-normal temperatures, while the number of days with strong winds in the Aegean Sea was very close to normal values.
September was a month with temperatures close to normal values.
October was a very warm month with very significant positive temperature deviations from normal values in all geographical areas of the country. It was also a month with minimal rainfall.
November was a month with negative temperature deviations from the normal values in all geographical regions of the country.
December was a month with slightly above normal temperatures, with a lot of rain across the country. In many areas during December, 30% of the total annual rainfall fell.
