Robberies, attempted murder, arson, and joining a criminal organisation are just some of the offences for which the two hardened Albanian thugs who escaped from Rural Prison Cassavetes on Thursday night.
According to a report by protothema.gr, the two men have been sentenced to several years in prison (even lifetime) for numerous robberies, arson, and membership in a criminal organization to commit homicides.
The two inmates, both 41 years old, had been held since 2019 at the Rural Prison in an unfenced area due to good behavior, and their room was only checked a few times a day by staff.
The drivers had been given five days off in 2024 and took advantage of their return from their last leave a few days ago to plan and execute their exodus.
Their disappearance, which was discovered at 21:00 on Thursday, prompted the immediate mobilisation of the police as the two escapees are considered dangerous due to their troubled past, and investigations are in full swing to locate them.
Their escape raises serious questions about the security measures in place at the correctional facility.
