Winter sales begin – Which Sundays will stores be open

The winter sales period is one of the most important for retailers, with traders expecting increased footfall and shopping.

Importantly, stores have the option of optionally opening two Sundays, on January 19 and 26.The proposed opening hours are from 11am to 6pm, giving shoppers more options to do their shopping.

About discounts, it is clarified that any announcement of a reduced price must include the previous price of the product (often called the “reference price”). This price refers to the lowest price applicable to the product in the 30 days before the start of the sale, i.e. before 13 January.

In addition, traders are requested to strictly comply with the provisions concerning discounts and reduced prices. Violations will incur a fine equal to 1% of annual turnover, with a minimum of 10,000 euros.

In cases where discounts are found to be inaccurate or misleading, the fine is increased to 2% of annual turnover, with a minimum of €20,000.
