From 30 December 2024, regulations to protect holders of cryptocurrencies, informing investors about the characteristics and risks of cryptocurrencies available on the market, ensuring the stability of the financial system and exploiting the opportunities for individuals and businesses arising from the growth of crypto-assets observed internationally, which are included in Regulation 2024/1114 on crypto-assets markets (“Markets in crypto-assets” / ”MiCA”).
As the Ministry of Economy and Finance points out in a statement, the new Regulation does not remove the risk of investing in crypto-assets, whose prices fluctuate sharply up or down.
It is also underlined that, despite the new provisions introduced by the MiCA Regulation, the level of protection – as pointed out by the European Securities and Markets Authority – is weaker than that applicable to traditional investment products.
