Former US first lady Michelle Obama, will not attend the inauguration of Donald Trump, her office announced Tuesday.
“Former President Barack Obama has confirmed that he will attend the 60th inaugural ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” the statement said, but no reason was given for her absence.
Michelle Obama also did not attend former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week. Barack Obama, George Bush Laura Bush, and Bill and Hillary Clinton were in attendance, as were President Joe Biden and Jill Biden and President-elect Trump and his wife Melania.
According to NBC News, Michelle Obama has attended every inauguration since her husband’s inauguration in 2009, including Trump’s when he succeeded Obama in 2017.
