The revelation that he had a “very good”phone conversation with China’s President Xi Jinping a few days before his inauguration was made by Donald Trump.
“I just spoke with China’s President Xi Jinping”, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social. “It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and we are starting right away.”
Trump added that they discussed trade, fentanyl, TikTok and other issues and that the call was “very good” for both countries. “President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!” he wrote.
Earlier, Chinese state media reported on the phone call without providing details of what was discussed.
The talks also come after the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Xi would not attend Trump’s inauguration in person on Monday. Instead, Vice President Han Zeng will attend the ceremony in Washington as the Chinese president’s special representative.
