Tom Homan, Donald Trump’s “border czar”, said today that targeted operations to capture immigrants who are in the US illegally will begin next week and will spread to several American cities.
When asked by Fox News if raids raids will be unleashed on many cities, including Chicago, Tom Homan replied, “I wouldn’t call them raids. They would be targeted law enforcement operations.”
When asked how these operations would be received in so-called sanctuary cities, which have pledged not to use city resources for anti-immigration operations, Homan replied that the Trump administration “will target the cities’ jails.”
“We have over 700,000 illegal immigrants with final orders of deportation”
According to a Reuters source, New York and Miami will be among the targets. The Wall Street Journal reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will conduct a week-long operation in Chicago using hundreds of agents.
Tom Homan, director of ICE, said the agency is carefully planning its operations: “ICE agents will know who is likely to be in the house, including children… Every target in this operation is well planned and the entire team will be there for the safety of the agents.”
He did not give a specific answer when asked if the mass deportation flights will begin next week as Trump promised. “We have over 700,000 illegal immigrants in the US with final orders of deportation. President Trump has been clear from day one. He will secure the border and carry out the deportation operation,” he said.
