Vendetta behind shooting in Heraklion – Father hunted down the brother of his son’s killer

An employee was lightly injured by mistake – This is a case that began in 2005 and evolved into a vendetta with the murder of Priamos Xydakis

Newsroom January 20 01:11

An armed incident with injuries occurred on Monday (January 20) at a meat factory in the area of Malades, Heraklion.

According to reports, the incident involved individuals from the Prophet Elias area of Heraklion, who have a history of disputes linked to the murder case of 34-year-old Priamos Xydakis.

Sources told protothema.gr that an employee at the business where the violent episode took place was injured in the hip.

The police responded immediately, with significant mobilization. Officers from the Heraklion Security Department rushed to the scene, gathering statements, collecting evidence, and reviewing footage from security cameras.

What Happened in 2012 – The Murder of Priamos Xydakis

On June 24, 2012, during the traditional Klidonas festival in the village of Prophet Elias, 34-year-old Priamos Xydakis was fatally shot by a 53-year-old butcher.

According to the indictment and the reasoning behind the initial court decision, the events unfolded following a phone argument between Xydakis and the butcher. Priamos Xydakis went to the butcher shop holding a crowbar. The 53-year-old was in his shop’s office at the time, accompanied by his two sons. A heated argument broke out between Xydakis and the butcher. The butcher then went to his car to retrieve a shotgun.

In the meantime, one of the butcher’s sons pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Xydakis. A struggle ensued, during which one of the two unintentionally pressed the trigger, causing the pistol to fire repeatedly. During the altercation, both the butcher and his son were injured.

However, the 53-year-old, who had already retrieved the shotgun from his car, managed to fire it despite his injuries. The shotgun blast struck Priamos Xydakis in the heart, killing him instantly. The shot also fatally injured Manolis Stavroulakis, who was sitting at a nearby café.

This tragic event left a lasting impact on the community, with tensions surrounding the case persisting for years.
