Only the US flag – and two flags associated with the country’s military – will be allowed to fly at US government buildings, under a new policy by his administration, Donald Trump, which was implemented by the State Department.
The new directive, titled “Single Flag Policy,” was issued Monday, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon news outlet.
Under the policy, henceforth, flags related to certain movements, such as Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ+ flags will not be allowed to be flown on government buildings. The same will apply to any flag associated with political or ideological messages.
“Henceforth, only the flag of the United States of America may be flown or displayed on U.S. premises, both at home and abroad,” the new policy document states. “The U.S. flag unites all Americans under the universal principles of justice, freedom and democracy.”
The only exception to this rule is the POW/MIA flag and the Missing in Action emblem, in recognition of the sacrifices of those who served in military combat.
If the directive is violated, punishment includes severe disciplinary action, such as transfer or dismissal. “The American flag is a powerful symbol of pride and unity. It is just and right that it should be flown exclusively on our facilities, honoring our shared values,” the policy stresses.
As claimed in the document, this is an attempt to eliminate any woke ideology from government institutions.
