Google Maps said it will modify the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on maps of the USA.
President Donald Trump made the change by executive order just days after taking office, fulfilling a campaign promise.
The change will be visible to users in the US once it is officially updated in the US Geographic Names System, Google said in a Twitter post.
However, the name will remain “Gulf of Mexico” for Google Maps users in Mexico. Users located in a country outside the US and Mexico will see both names on Google Maps.
The U.S. Department of the Interior said last Friday that it officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Alaska’s Mount Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, to Mount McKinley.
