The situation has become tense as residents of Santorini are trying to leave the island by any means possible. Long lines have formed outside travel agencies, and now it seems that flights are quickly selling out.
Meanwhile, the Blue Star Chios, which is carrying 1,100 passengers, will set sail for Piraeus at dawn. Most of the passengers are of Albanian descent, with many workers and hotel staff leaving the island.
Many of those departing are fearful of a potential tsunami, following the recent seismic activity.
In the meantime, a meeting was held at the Maximos Mansion to discuss the recent seismic activity in the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos. The Minister of Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, made the following statement:
“All data regarding the seismic activity is being examined. The measures that have been taken so far are preventative. There will be continuous meetings and updates from the seismic risk management committee. I urge citizens to listen to the experts’ instructions and follow them carefully to address the current situation. There is heightened vigilance and an organized response. I also urge that the public pay attention to reliable sources for proper information, ensuring that the actual events are presented accurately.”
It’s clear that authorities are closely monitoring the situation, prioritizing safety and ensuring that appropriate measures are in place.
