The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will withdraw the Latin American country from the World Health Organization (WHO), the spokesman for the Argentine presidency announced today, in a decision justified by citing “deep differences over health management” and “the political influence of certain states.”
“The president has instructed the foreign minister, Gerardo Werthein, to withdraw Argentina from the WHO,” Manuel Anthony said at a press conference.
Argentines “will not allow an international organization to interfere in our sovereignty, let alone when it comes to our health,” he said.
The decision follows a similar one by US President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order upon taking office to withdraw the US from the WHO on January 22, 2026.
