A rescue operation was carried out in Chania by firefighters to free a man who had fallen into a shaft.

The man, who was performing work at the site in the village of Vatolakkos, Municipality of Platanias, fell into a two-meter-deep shaft at around 12:00 noon.

Four fire trucks with ten firefighters arrived at the scene immediately and successfully retrieved the man, who was conscious. He was then handed over to EKAB (National Emergency Medical Service) and transported to Chania Hospital.
