The University of Athens Honors Distinguished Athletes

In his speech, Rector Professor Gerasimos Siassos stated:

“With great joy and pride, we welcome you today to this special ceremony, during which the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens honors the students who, through their determination, passion for sports, and dedication to the principles of fair play, manage to stand out while successfully balancing two demanding roles: that of a student and that of an athlete.

This event celebrates your brilliant successes, while also showcasing sports as a fundamental value of our culture. After all, sports are deeply rooted in Greek tradition. From ancient Greece and the Olympic Games to the modern era, they symbolize physical and mental cultivation, noble rivalry, and dedication to high aspirations.
