“We are continuing with a plan and with all our efforts in the battle to further decelerate inflation in food and necessities of life,” the development minister Takis Theodorikakos in a statement after he meets with representatives of supermarkets, the food industry, and multinationals, asking them to reduce their average profit to maintain low inflation in food and basic living items in the coming period.
As the minister said, “We have succeeded in having the lowest food inflation of all the Eurozone countries. And because we are interested in this effort to continue to have results, we are addressing all our market forces and pushing in all ways the inflationary pressures observed internationally, so that they do not pass as much as possible to the Greek market.
To be absorbed by the entire supermarket, food industry, and multinationals with a reduction in their average profit. What we are interested in is people receiving better opportunities and higher disposable income. At the same time, we are pushing for and expect controls that will be intensified, more real discounts and offers, not misleading ones.”
