Marinakis: The opposition wants to destabilize the country, PASOK is wallowing in the mud and “washing” SYRIZA

"They don't bring forward proposals, but act as judges, prosecutors, experts, they pander to the public, they spew filth, and fill society with toxicity," said the government spokesperson

In a harsh critique of PASOK and SYRIZA, accusing them of trying to destabilize the country, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis made his remarks on Wednesday morning.

Speaking on OPEN TV, he referred to an “organized—I’m not sure if it’s coordinated, but it has common characteristics—effort aimed at exploiting human pain, the state’s need to administer justice in every tragic accident.”

“We are responding to those who talk about delegitimization,” continued Mr. Marinakis, accusing SYRIZA of “surpassing every limit of vulgarity, and that’s why it loses 1-2 points in every poll.”

“We have an opposition that wants to take us back to the nightmare of a decade ago, to the dark days of yesterday. They don’t bring proposals, saying they don’t like what the government is doing, but act as judges, prosecutors, experts, they pander to the public, they spew filth, and fill society with toxicity. All they want is for Mitsotakis to fall, they slander reputations, and the only thing they don’t care about is justice,” the government spokesperson insisted in high tones.

As he pointed out, “they want the destabilization of the country. The country has a stable government, and we will only answer to the citizens, point by point, about whether we implemented our program. As for the Tempe incident, the judges will decide.”

Launching an attack on Nikos Androulakis, Mr. Marinakis noted that “the leader of the main opposition party, a party with no tradition in anti-systemic behavior, is talking about a general questioning of justice. This is unprecedented.”

“PASOK is washing SYRIZA because its victims in the Novartis scandal were former MPs and ministers from its own party. The former Justice Minister of SYRIZA, Stavros Kontonis, has gone on record about justice subministries that interfered in judicial matters. What does the political answer to a clear political intervention in justice have to do with a general statement by Mr. Androulakis in an ongoing case?”

“PASOK has a tradition in serious political discourse. The mud of PASOK in past years didn’t drag us down. They used to call them ‘collaborators’ and ‘traitors’,” he added about Nikos Androulakis’ party.

“We have a stable government, unlike what is happening in Europe, and we have an opposition that, under false pretenses, is filing a motion of no confidence while there are parliamentary control processes. Does PASOK want elections? How many points are they behind New Democracy? Have they issued a program for railways, healthcare, and education? Is it part of democracy for a party to ask for elections? But here, they don’t come and say, ‘We have this program,’ instead, they say, ‘We want you to fall because we believe something before justice decides,'” Mr. Marinakis added.

Referring to Socrates Famellos and the insinuations he made regarding the death of Vasilis Kalogiros, the government spokesperson sharply commented, “What the president of SYRIZA did yesterday is even more irresponsible than saying outright that they want the government to fall. What does ‘a question is being raised’ mean? When you accuse, you need to be clear. If you’re clear, you’ll face the consequence that it’s just throwing mud in the wind. Also, how does delegitimization arise from a party that went from 31% to 6-7, and in order to elect a president, had to exclude a candidate at a conference in a nightclub?”

“We’ve never turned against people who have lost their children. Here, we have an opposition, unfortunately united not by common action but by a common goal, wanting the country to return to a dark period, a nightmare. We have a duty to fulfill the mandate we received in 2023. We will continue to promote the program on which we were elected. We will respond to the opposition’s questions, but to take them seriously, we need to see proposals. We will return the vulgarity,” concluded Pavlos Marinakis.
