However, answers are still being sought to a series of critical questions regarding how, under what circumstances, with what terms of security and surveillance he was hospitalized at the Dafni psychiatric hospital since it has been determined that he has no criminal record. For this reason, he was hospitalized at the psychiatric hospital by court order, in application of the provisions of article 69 of the Penal Code, having killed another woman.
The murder that the 47-year-old committed at dawn was carried out in exactly the same way, without any motive other than what his mind created, as the crime he had committed last November in Corfu. Back then, he had killed a patient of the psychiatric hospital, using objects that to anyone else were nothing more than an innocent pen and a wooden cutlery. In his hands, they became deadly tools. Now, he used a piece of a room mirror, which he broke and hacked to death the 44-year-old woman. He then announced to the nurses what he had done – according to some information, in fact, he allegedly told them that he had killed the woman in… Corfu and disappeared. He remained free for almost 17 hours.
The 47-year-old, after his crime in Corfu, was deemed not to have a criminal record and was deemed to fall under the provisions of article 69 of the Penal Code. This means that he is not serving a prison sentence, but of course he is not being released. He remains confined in a psychiatric facility, in a special area, so that he does not pose a danger to other people. Such areas, however, do not exist and according to the information so far, the man in question was hospitalized with 30 other patients and of course, not under guard.
How a presumed dangerous patient was found in a ward with so many other patients and without any guard or other means of surveillance is the first question that must be answered by the urgent EDE that has been ordered.
The following is the announcement of the 2nd DYPE of Piraeus and Aegean, to which the Dafni psychiatric hospital belongs, regarding the case:
On Wednesday 19/2/2025 at 03.15 am, a 46-year-old male patient, who was hospitalized in the Psychiatric Clinic of the Attica Multi-Purpose Nursing Unit of Mental Health by Court Decision, pursuant to the provisions of article 69 of the Criminal Code, attacked a 44-year-old female patient, who was hospitalized in the same Psychiatric Clinic, causing her serious bodily harm. The patient then escaped from the Clinic, where he was hospitalized. The medical and nursing staff made every possible effort to resuscitate the victim, who unfortunately died. At the same time, the EKAB, the GADA and the Immediate Action were called and instructions were given to take measures for the safety of both the patients and the staff of the Multi-Purpose Nursing Unit. An urgent Sworn Administrative Examination was ordered to be carried out, in order to establish the circumstances under which the incident took place in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Service Code. An operation by the Greek Police is underway to locate the patient alleged to be the perpetrator. The tragic incident deeply saddens us and we express our condolences to the victim’s family.
