In 18 months from today, the new premises of the Thanksgiving Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki are expected to be delivered for use, as the contract between the Ministry of Justice and the Thessaloniki Port Authority for the lease of buildings with a total surface area of approximately 9,000 square metres in the port of Thessaloniki, where the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal is to be relocated in principle.
The premises will be located in the area of Thessaloniki in order to accommodate the new building.
These facilities, after the necessary works (structural reinforcements, radical renovation, energy upgrading, etc.), will be handed over for use by the judicial services in 18 months.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Justice, the reconstruction of the current Judicial Building in Thessaloniki, worth 79 million euros and with a total gross surface area of 40,000 sq.m., includes the renovation of all the spaces, so that they can be returned to full functionality, as well as their re-ergonomic design, in order to achieve their maximum utilization.
This will be done through the implementation of works related to the restoration of significant damage to the building’s infrastructure, their functional rearrangement and energy upgrading.
The Minister of Justice, Jiorgos Florides, said at the signing of the contract:
“With today’s signature, the way is opened for the implementation of the studies for the internal relocation of judicial functions of the Thessaloniki Courthouse and for the start of the competitive dialogue for the entire judicial mega projects of the PPP of Central Macedonia, whose progress was hindered by the pending relocation of the judicial services of Thessaloniki.
The start of the competitive dialogue is set for 6 months from today, while the 18 months to follow will see the selection of the contractor and the start of the works, which are expected to be completed in 3 years.”
The €79 million reconstruction of the current Thessaloniki Courthouse is part of the Central Macedonia PPP, which also includes the new Edessa, Serres and Kilkis Courthouses with a total budget of €120 million.

The signing of the contract took place at the office of the chairwoman of the Tripartite Board of the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal, Sofia Manjakidou, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, Pelops Laskos, representatives of the Thessaloniki Port Authority, the Director of the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal Prosecutor’s Office, of the Thessaloniki Bar Association and the President of the Board of the Association of Judicial Officers of Thessaloniki.
The contract was signed by the official secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Vasiliki Yavi, the managing director of PPA, Ioannis Tsaras and Eleni Chrysopoulou, on behalf of the contractor company.
