Two of the five young individuals accused of throwing a wooden chair at a police patrol car in Thessaloniki were found not guilty by the Juvenile Court. The attack allegedly took place when officers attempted to inspect an area in Nea Michaniona, where illegal street races were being held.

The incident happened in June 2023, but the Hellenic Police (ELAS) only managed to identify those involved in February 2025. The suspects, aged between 17 and 27, were charged with attempted bodily harm and property damage.

One of the suspects, on the same day as the incident, reportedly ignored police orders to stop while riding a motorcycle. He managed to flee and later abandoned the vehicle in a coastal area of Nea Michaniona.

The two minors who stood trial today before the Juvenile Court were acquitted due to reasonable doubt and cleared of all charges. The remaining three defendants, all adults, are set to be tried at the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki.

The lawyer representing the two minors, Giannis Mandrou, made the following statement to protothema.gr after the court’s ruling:

“There is no evidence in the audiovisual material of the case file that places these minors at the scene of the alleged crime. Simply being in a café with the perpetrators earlier that day is not enough to substantiate a charge of attempted bodily harm.”
