Local rains on Sunday and on Clean Monday – With 7 Beaufort and rainfall we’ll fly the kite

On Sunday the weather will be mild with light showers mainly in northern Greece and the eastern mainland in the afternoon

Local showers and a slight drop in temperature are forecast by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) for Sunday, while the weather on Clean Monday will be unsettled, with rain expected in several regions of the country. Winds will reach up to 7 Beaufort, making it easier for those who choose to fly kites.

According to the director of EMY, Theodoros Kolydas, Sunday’s weather will be mild, with light rain mainly in northern Greece and the eastern mainland in the afternoon. Kite flying will take place in unstable weather, as he mentions, with “local showers in northern Greece and snow in mountainous areas. Light rain will also occur in Thessaly, Eastern Sterea, Evia, eastern and northeastern Peloponnese, as well as eastern and southern island regions.”

Regarding the winds, he notes that they will be “northeasterly, with an intensity of 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean,” while there will be a “drop in temperature.”

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias, on the other hand, predicts that on Clean Monday, significant rainfall will occur in central Greece, Athens, central Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Thessaly, and eastern Peloponnese.

Weather in carnival destinations

On Sunday, Patras will have good weather with sunshine and a temperature of 16°C. In Xanthi, there will be some rain at midday, but overall, the weather will be fair, with temperatures reaching 12°C. In Moschato and Rethymno, the sun will be accompanied by occasional clouds, with temperatures around 16°C. In Naousa, showers will occur at midday, and temperatures will be around 11°C.

Attica

Weather: Scattered clouds gradually increasing. Local showers will occur in mountainous areas in the afternoon and extend to other regions by evening.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning northerly-northeasterly at night.
Temperature: 08 to 16°C.

Thessaloniki

Weather: Cloudy with occasional local showers from the morning. In the afternoon, isolated thunderstorms may occur.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning north-northwest at 5 Beaufort in the evening.
Temperature: 07 to 14°C.

Macedonia, Thrace

Weather: Cloudy with occasional local showers from the morning. In coastal areas, isolated thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon. Light snow will fall locally in mountainous regions.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting to northerly at 5 Beaufort in the evening.
Temperature: 03 to 14-15°C.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese

Weather: Scattered clouds, occasionally denser, with a chance of brief local showers, mainly in mountainous areas in the afternoon.
Winds: Southerly 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning north-northeasterly at night.
Temperature: 07 to 17°C, 2-3°C lower in inland Epirus.

Eastern Sterea, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese

Weather: Scattered clouds gradually increasing. Local showers will occur in mountainous areas in the afternoon and spread to other regions in the evening.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting to north-northeasterly at night.
Temperature: 06 to 16-17°C.

Cyclades, Crete

Weather: Scattered clouds, becoming denser in the afternoon.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort.
Temperature: 09 to 17-18°C.

Eastern Aegean Islands, Dodecanese

Weather: Scattered clouds, becoming denser in the afternoon, with local showers in the northern areas at night.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting to north-northeasterly at 5 Beaufort in the northern areas at night, strengthening overnight.
Temperature: 10 to 17-18°C, locally up to 15°C in the north.

Thessaly

Weather: Scattered clouds gradually increasing. Local showers will occur in mountainous areas in the afternoon and spread to other regions by evening, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in coastal areas.
Winds: Variable 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning northeasterly in the afternoon.
Temperature: 05 to 15°C.

On Tuesday, the west and north will see occasional clouds, while other areas will have increased cloud cover with local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms in the Aegean. Light snow will fall in mountainous regions of central and southern Greece and Crete. Winds will be east-northeasterly at 4-5 Beaufort in the west, north-northeasterly at 5-6 Beaufort in the east, and locally up to 7-8 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will drop further, mainly in central and southern regions. Frost will occur in mainland areas during the morning and evening hours.

On Wednesday, eastern Sterea, Peloponnese, Evia, the eastern Aegean islands, the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese will have clouds with local showers and isolated thunderstorms in the south. Temporary snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of Crete. Gradually, these phenomena will be confined to Crete and weaken. Elsewhere, the weather will be generally clear. Winds will be northerly, at 4-5 Beaufort in the west, 4-6 Beaufort in the east, and locally 7-8 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will rise, especially in maximum values, but frost will persist in mainland areas during morning and evening hours.

On Thursday, the weather will be generally clear nationwide. Winds will be northerly, at 3-4 Beaufort in the west and 4-6 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures will rise across the country.
