On March 6, 1994, Melina Mercouri passed away. Every year, this day is celebrated as “Melina Mercouri Memorial Day,” and as part of this anniversary, entrance to public museums and archaeological sites, as well as the Acropolis Museum, will be free.
It is noted that entrance to the archaeological sites managed by the Ministry of Culture and belonging to the public sector is free of charge on the following dates:
- March 6 (Melina Mercouri Memorial Day),
- April 18 (International Day for Monuments),
- May 18 (International Museum Day),
- Last weekend of September (European Heritage Days),
- October 28 (National Holiday),
- The first Sunday of each month from November 1 to March 31 of each year.
- Acropolis Museum
The official free entry days for the Acropolis Museum are as follows:
All Hours:
- March 6 (Melina Mercouri Memorial Day)
- March 25,
- May 18 (International Museum Day), and October 28
For Part of the Day:
- European Heritage Days (Last weekend of September each year), following a decision by the Board of Directors.
