Actor Steve Carell is stepping up to help students impacted by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles by covering the costs of their prom. The 62-year-old The Office star announced in an Instagram video that he is partnering with the charity organization Alice’s Kids to fund the prom for six high schools in the Pasadena area. “If you’ve already paid for your tickets, you’ll be reimbursed,” Carell assured students in his message.

Actor Steve Carell announced a "very special" surprise for hundreds of high school seniors affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern California: free prom tickets.

The wildfires, which began in early January, have claimed the lives of over 29 people in Pacific Palisades and Altadena, north of Pasadena. More than 16,000 homes, businesses, schools, and other buildings were destroyed. Carell’s generous contribution aims to bring some joy to students whose lives have been deeply affected by the disaster, allowing them to celebrate their graduation despite the hardships they’ve faced.

The charity will donate approximately $175,000 to cover the cost of tickets for over 800 students. Ticket prices range from $100 to $150 each, according to the Associated Press. “Prom should be a celebration. That’s why we wanted to help make the big night a little easier for seniors whose lives were upended by the fires,” said Ron Fitzsimmons, Executive Director of Alice’s Kids. “We hope this allows students to relax and enjoy themselves after such a challenging time.”

This isn’t the first time Carell has shown his compassion for social causes. Just last week, he participated in the Skate for LA Strong charity hockey tournament alongside other celebrities to raise funds for wildfire relief efforts.
