The strong Saharan dust transport phenomenon that has “choked” many areas of Greece is expected to show signs of abatement from Monday.
According to the forecast data released today by Thodoris Kolydas, “from tomorrow the dust wave will gradually move further east. The first picture shows the actual image of the suspended dust, depicted in pink and located in large concentrations in the west and south, while the other picture shows the forecast data from #Copernicus.”
Today, Sunday 16/03 will be the last day with a strong Saharan dust transport towards Greece, with the highest concentrations mainly in the western, central and southern parts, as estimated by the DUST/METEO dust concentration forecast model of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr.
As of Monday morning 17/03 dust concentrations are gradually decreasing.
