USA: We are ready to take over the management of a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, says Washington

The US Secretary of Energy stated to Bloomberg that the Trump administration is prepared to send experts to Ukraine once a political decision is made

The United States is ready to take over the management of a nuclear power plant in Ukraine if the necessary political decision is made, said US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright in an interview with Bloomberg.

According to Wright, the Trump administration is prepared to send “high-level nuclear technology experts who will make wise decisions” regarding the operation of the plant. “America is full of expertise in this field,” he added.

At the same time, Wright noted that there are currently no discussions regarding American companies acquiring facilities such as the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian control since the beginning of the war.

Earlier this week, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States discussed the ceasefire, Donald Trump’s conversation with Vladimir Putin, the situation in the Kursk region, planned meetings of technical teams, and the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.

President Trump also proposed transferring ownership of Ukraine’s power plants to the US to ensure better protection.

For his part, Zelensky stated that during his phone call with Trump, they discussed the restoration of the Zaporizhzhia plant’s operations, with the US president responding positively to this possibility.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been under Russian control since March 4, 2022. In September of that year, the plant completely stopped generating electricity.

Due to bombings, the plant’s external power transmission lines have repeatedly been damaged.
