Almost one in two French (49%) want Marine Le Pen to run in the upcoming presidential election, according to poll by Ifop-Fiducial for Sud Radio conducted after her conviction in a case involving MEP aides.

Within a month, the percentage of French people who want Le Pen to run in the election has risen by 7%. At the same time, 51% of poll participants do not want the leader of the National Rally (RN) to be able to run for the Elysee, a seven-point drop from a previous poll conducted in late February.

An overwhelming majority (79%) of respondents believe that Marine Le Pen belongs to the far right – 76% of those who support the RN.

The poll was conducted online on 1 and 2 April among a representative sample of the French population of 1,000 people aged 18 and over. The margin of error is between 2.8 and 3.1 points.
