Mitsotakis pleased with Trump’s tariff freeze: EU to use the time for a mutually beneficial agreement with the US

Why not end the US-EU negotiations with a zero tariff framework, the Prime Minister asked

Newsroom April 10 12:47

Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction with Donald Trump‘s decision to “freeze” for 90 days the tariffs he had announced on dozens of countries, including the EU, during a meeting with the Association of Industries of Central Greece in Oinofyta.

At the same time, he called on the European Union “to take advantage of this period of time in order to negotiate with the United States an agreement that would be mutually beneficial.”

“And why not reach a framework of zero tariffs to and from the United States, so as to effectively facilitate trade between the European Union and the U.S.,” Mr. Mitsotakis added.

He also sent a message of support for Greek industry from the government, saying: “I want you to know that the Greek Government stands practically by the side of industry, recognizing the very important work you are doing.”

The Prime Minister also commented on remarks made by employees of the company Intertrade Hellas, which he visited, regarding wage increases over the past 1.5 years, saying: “That was the goal of our policy. As unemployment decreases, wages should rise, but productivity should also improve.”
