Weather: High temperatures during Easter Sunday – Where rain is expected

Good weather for Easter Sunday across the country, according to ERT meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou.

In particular, on Holy Saturday we expect a lot of sunshine with local showers at noon and in the afternoon in eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Winds from westerly directions 6 Beaufort in the south. The temperature at noon will reach 23-25 degrees Celsius.

The temperature will reach 23°C to 23°C in the morning.
In Attica we expect sunshine, with westerly winds and a temperature of 12 to 25 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki on Saturday we will have good weather with winds blowing north to 4 Beaufort and the temperature ranging from 11 to 24 degrees Celsius.

On Easter Sunday we expect a lot of sunshine with a few showers at noon in the mountains of Thrace. The winds will blow westerly up to 4 Beaufort and the temperature will rise up to 25 degrees Celsius.

The weather will be unstable on Holy Saturday (19/4), in areas of northeastern Greece, as OPEN meteorologist Klearhos Marousakis reported.

Specifically, during the midday and afternoon hours, local showers are expected in eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the northeastern Aegean. The phenomena will be transient and will subside by the evening of Holy Saturday (19/4), allowing the celebration of the Resurrection Mass under clear skies.

On Easter Sunday (4/20), weather conditions will be generally good across the country. There may be isolated showers in mountainous areas of northern and western Greece without, however, causing any particular problems.

Easter Monday (21/4) is expected to be ideal for the return of holidaymakers, with sunshine, mild winds and favourable temperatures. Seas will be calm, making travel easier. However, those who choose to return on Easter Tuesday (4/22) should be prepared for a change in the weather, as a new low barometric pressure system will approach the country from the west, bringing rainfall to western, central and southern Greece.

High temperatures on Good Friday – 29 degrees in Crete

The temperature dropped slightly on Good Friday, but remained high across the country. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Neapoli, Lasithi, where the mercury reached 29.1 degrees Celsius.

Today’s weather

A few clouds are expected across the country. Gradually in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace the clouds will increase and during the warm hours of the day there will be showers and thunderstorms. The phenomena may be locally intense at times. There is a possibility of local rain or isolated thunderstorms on the islands of Thassos, Samothrace, Chios and Lesvos.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 6 to 23-25 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 9 to 25-27 degrees Celsius, in Western Greece from 10 to 21-23 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 9 to 24-26 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 10 to 22 degrees Celsius and in the Aegean Islands and Crete from 9 to 22-24 degrees Celsius.

The winds in the Aegean will blow from northwest directions with 4-5 Beaufort winds, while in the southern parts of the Aegean prevail western northwest winds with 4-6 Beaufort winds. In the Ionian Sea, northwest winds will blow at 3-4 Beaufort and locally in the southern parts at 5 Beaufort. A strong western northwestern current of 4-5 and locally 6 Beaufort will prevail in the Corinthian Sea.

In Attica we expect sunshine, with a few clouds during the warm hours of the day. Winds will blow west northwest with intensities of 3-5 Beaufort, and locally in the westernmost parts of the prefecture 6 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 15 to 26 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki we expect a few clouds, partly increasing from midday. The winds will blow from northwestern directions with intensities of 3-4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 13 to 25 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Easter Sunday (20/4)

Generally clear with sparse clouds that will be more dense in places and at times on the mainland. Possibility of localised showers of short duration in the midday-afternoon hours in eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Visibility in the morning and evening hours in the central and northern parts will be limited in places.

Winds will be variable, light 2 to 3 Beaufort, in the sea locally from the north 4 and in the eastern Aegean up to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly. It will remain relatively high for the season throughout the country and will reach 23 to 25 and locally 26 degrees Celsius on the mainland and 20 to 22 degrees Celsius on the islands.

The weather on Easter Monday (21/4)

Thin clouds in places and occasionally more dense. In the midday – afternoon hours in the central and northern mainland, mainly in the mountains, local rain or rain. Visibility in the morning and evening hours in the central and northern regions will be limited in places.

Winds will be variable 3 to 4 and in the southern seas from eastern directions 4 to 5 and in the evening hours in the southern Ionian Sea locally 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly

The weather on Tuesday (22/04)

Scattered clouds that will quickly thicken and local showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur, initially in the Ionian Sea and the western and central mainland. Gradually the phenomena will extend to the rest of the continent and by the evening will also affect areas in the Aegean. The phenomena from the evening in the continental areas will gradually fade and will stop at night. Visibility in the morning hours in the central and northern continental areas will be limited in places.

Winds will be east northeast 3 to 4 and in the sea 4 to 6, gradually shifting to north northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort by the evening.

The temperature will drop slightly on the mainland.
