The train IC53 route Thessaloniki – Athens, with 190 passengers, was damaged and came to a halt at 13:18 after the Ekcara bridge.
According to a statement by Hellenic Train, the company is investigating the causes of the breakdown, has activated the procedures, and arranged for the dispatch of locomotives from Lianokladi, which arrived at the scene at 14:20 to transfer the train to the Lianokladi station, where the passengers were disembarked.
After arriving at the Lianokladiou station, passengers were transferred to their final destination by bus, while some of them chose to continue their journey on the next train, also to Athens.
“Hellenic Train staff offered snacks and water to the passengers during their wait and stood by their side from the very first moment to limit their suffering as much as possible. Hellenic Train is making every effort to continuously improve its services and is investigating the causes of the damage,” the statement said.
The company is working hard to improve the service and will continue.
