Hadjivassiliou: Egypt a strategic partner of Greece in the wider region

Meetings with the Egyptian Ministers of Economic Development and Investment and International Trade after the High Cooperation Council between Greece and Egypt

The High Council for Cooperation between Greece and Egypt which held in Athens, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Tassos Hadjivassiliou.

After the conclusion of the proceedings, Mr. Hadjivassiliou, with the Minister of Development Takis Theodoricakos, met with the Minister of Economic Development and International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Masat and the Minister of Investment and International Trade Hassan el-Hatib.

The contacts confirmed the excellent level of Greek-Egyptian relations. They discussed the prospects for further trade and economic cooperation and investments in traditional sectors, such as shipping and tourism, as well as in the fields of new technologies and green energy, through projects that enhance interconnectivity, with the Greece-Egypt Electricity Interconnection (GREGY Interconnector cable) being the highlight. In addition, the Deputy Foreign Minister discussed Greek exports and agreed with his counterparts to conduct a business mission to Cairo in 2025.

Deputy Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tasos Hadjivassiliou, said: “Today’s meeting of the High Cooperation Council between Greece and Egypt and the signing of the Declaration of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries confirm in practice the mutual commitment to closer cooperation. As the Prime Minister said, “the two countries are on the same bank in the face of the major challenges in our region”.

With Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos, we met with Ministers Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Hassan El Khatib and discussed the strategic depth of our economic and trade relations and the prospects for further cooperation. Egypt is a strategic partner for Greece in the wider region. Together we are shaping a stable framework of security, development, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
