Hazirakis said that it was a personal choice of him and the affected engineer not to move under the self-incrimination procedure for the incident itself, which is however described in the complaint. “We are not going to go back on the autopsy report,” Semandirakis and Hazirakis asserted, noting that the planning department will do its job unaffected by such incidents.
At the Planning Department, “one of our fellow citizens decided to take the law into his own hands, decided to manhandle employees and the deputy mayor. This cannot be tolerated. Not just any citizen can not move, intimidate and obstruct the operation of services,” said the mayor of Chania, Mr. Simandirakis.
“The building service always operates transparently and by the law. So did in this case, where an autopsy and inspection of this particular investment have been carried out. Some minor overruns were found about the licensing for some small fills,” he added.
“Justice will do its work, and I want to send a message to the workers of the municipality of Chania that they should feel safe, the municipal authority will be by their side, and the whole society, no one is above the law and can not be manipulated,” he said.
