Firefighters are engaged in a major battle against a large forest wildfire in Evia after flames broke out on Saturday afternoon in the area between Almyropotamos and Mesochoria, in the Municipality of Karystos. Authorities have issued an emergency evacuation order for two settlements via the 112 alert system.
A 112 emergency message was sent to residents of Mesochoria and Raptaioi, instructing them to evacuate immediately towards Styra.
“If you are in the areas of Mesochoria and Raptaioi, move towards Styra,” the alert stated, while residents have been urged to follow all instructions issued by the authorities.
Firefighting efforts are being severely hampered by strong winds sweeping through the area.

According to local outlet eviaonline.gr, aerial firefighting aircraft are encountering difficulties refilling water supplies from Karystos and are being forced to travel to Aliveri for replenishment, increasing operational response times. At the same time, electricity supplies to the area have been cut for safety reasons.
Firefighting resources have been significantly reinforced, with 120 firefighters, five specialised ground crews, and 35 fire engines now deployed at the scene.

Aerial support includes seven helicopters, one of which is being used for coordination purposes, and nine firefighting aircraft.

Additional firefighting personnel and vehicles are being dispatched from regions including Volos, Larissa and Mouzaki as authorities intensify efforts to contain the blaze.

Municipal water tankers, heavy machinery and volunteers are also assisting in the firefighting operation.
