For the first time, the voice of Greek shipping will be heard directly at the UN Security Council, at a critical international juncture. The President of the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association (HEA), Melina Travlou, will participate as a keynote speaker at a high-level Council meeting on May 20, bringing into focus the contribution of Greek-owned shipping to global stability.
The meeting is being held on the occasion of Greece assuming the presidency of the Security Council for the month of May and is entitled: “Enhanced Maritime Security through International Cooperation for Global Stability”. The debate will be chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while among the main interventions will be that of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The presence of Ms Travlos at this leading forum is not only symbolic; it reflects the international recognition of Greek shipping as a key pillar of global trade, economic cohesion and energy security. She is expected to underline the strategic role of the sector, which transports more than 80% of the world’s goods, acting as an unseen driving force of the global economy.
