A video of a mumelephant in Malaysia trying to move the truck that killed her baby is making the rounds on the internet and has moved audiences.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened in northern Malaysia, causing a wave of emotion. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when the heavy vehicle collided with the small elephant, trapping it under its front end and killing it.
The moving video of the elephant mother trying to push the truck to free her cub went viral on social media and in the media. After the incident, the animal was sedated and taken back to the wild, according to local reports.
Wildlife activists have called on the Government to step up efforts to build dedicated motorway crossings to reduce fatal collisions with animals. “Every year we witness tragic incidents where animals are hit by vehicles while crossing roads in search of food,” said Lee Lam Thye, a former politician and activist, noting that these collisions threaten not only animals but also drivers.
