Eurovision 2025: Discussions ongoing with Celine Dion about her performance on the Basel stage
With the first semi-final starting in a few hours and interest reaching a peak, the potential participation of Celine Dion in Eurovision 2025 remains an open question, with organizers confirming that contacts with her are continuing.
During Monday’s rehearsal, a video was played in which the Canadian singer addresses the Swiss audience, with the EBU clarifying that “the situation remains unchanged – we are still in communication with Celine Dion.” However, this message may not ultimately be broadcast on Tuesday, as — according to Swiss newspaper Le Matin — it was rehearsal footage that does not confirm her final participation. In the video, the 57-year-old singer from Quebec says: “I want nothing more than to be with you in Basel tonight. Switzerland will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s a country that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to be part of something so extraordinary. My victory at Eurovision was a life-changing experience, and I am grateful to everyone who supported me.”

As Le Matin points out, her physical presence on the Eurovision stage will depend on her health condition, and the final decision might be made literally at the last moment. However, according to leaked plans, a special tribute to the artist is scheduled for the first semi-final on May 13, honoring her contribution when she brought Switzerland its second victory in the contest in 1988. Additionally, during the grand final on May 17, a two-minute segment dedicated to Celine Dion has been planned.
This year, the 69th Eurovision will be held in Basel, following NEMO’s victory in 2024 with the song “The Code,” which scored a total of 591 points (365 from the jury and 226 from the public), marking Switzerland’s first win in 36 years. The shows are scheduled for May 13, 15, and 17, 2025.
