A few days ago, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (HSPN), the National Operator of the International “Blue Flag” Program in Greece, announced the awards for beaches, marinas, and tourist boats.
Compared to 2024, the number of Blue Flag beaches is just two fewer. However, several beaches have lost the designation, while several others have received the award. Specifically, in 2024 there were 625 beaches awarded the Blue Flag, while this year the number stands at 623.
Regarding Attica, two beaches have been removed from the list: Karavi Beach in Schinias (Municipality of Marathon) and the 1st Limanaki Daskaleiou Keratea – Solo Pino Beach (Municipality of Lavreotiki). Both no longer meet the strict criteria set by the organization for 2025 and have therefore been excluded from the list.
The Blue Flag program evaluates criteria such as:
- Quality of bathing waters (samples free from sewage or microbial contamination)
- Cleanliness and waste management
- Beach organization, including lifeguards and informational signage
- Accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWD)
- Environmental awareness and education activities
