EPP and New Democracy MEP Fredi Beleris launched an attack on SYRIZA MEP Kostas Arvanitis through a post on social media.

Specifically, he spoke of a smear campaign against Greece by Arvanitis:
“At a time when two government ministers were receiving congratulations from the competent EU Commissioner, Michael McGrath, for Greece’s progress on the rule of law, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance MEP Kostas Arvanitis, during a session of the European Parliament’s special committee ‘Shield for Democracy,’ was engaging in a campaign to slander our country.”

As Fredi Beleris emphasized, “He went so far as to rant about the ‘Truth Team’ and to target ERT (the public broadcaster, which we all remember under SYRIZA’s tenure and how it was perceived by citizens, whereas today its administration is appointed through an ASEP competition in the most transparent manner), as well as the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), with unfounded insinuations of government interference in their work.“
