According to reports, police from the Homicide Department, who traveled to the island to investigate, made the arrests. The suspects are related: a father, his brother (the uncle), and his son.
The 69-year-old victim reportedly fought back when the suspects attempted to rob her in the morning of February 19. During the struggle, the son—who has confessed to wielding the knife—stabbed her, inflicting a fatal wound on her thigh.
It emerged that the three Albanians tried to rob the woman at her home that morning. She resisted, leading one of the suspects to stab her. The fatal injury was a laceration from a sharp and cutting instrument on her left inner thigh, above the knee, which caused severe bleeding. She was found by her son lying unconscious on the steps of her house near her car.
The forensic pathologist who examined the scene concluded that her death resulted from a criminal act. The injury caused significant blood loss, and she succumbed within minutes.
