A special meeting was held with Attica’s regional governor Nikos Chardalias, who made an express trip to China for the ITB international tourism exhibition in Shanghai.

Mr. Chardalias met with 13 students from the Department of Greek Studies of the University of Shanghai, with whom he had a personal conversation.

Many of the students had recently visited Athens, as they participated in the educational program established by the Attica Region to host Greek-speaking students and schoolchildren from around the world. At that time, they had even met the Regional Governor in his office at the Administrative Building, who promised to see them again soon in their homeland. “I am happy that I was able to keep my promise and meet you again at your school,” said Nikos Chardalias, expressing his emotion and describing the participating students as “the most worthy, the strongest ambassadors for the continuation of the traditional, historic friendship of our two peoples.”

One of the most widespread habits of Greek-speaking students is the adoption of Greek names, by which they introduced themselves to the Regional Governor and members of the Greek delegation. Athena, Odysseus, Helen, Hermes, Persephone and the other children who visited Attica expressed their thanks to the Regional Governor for the opportunity to learn about Greek culture – the one they said they had been taught in school and now experienced first-hand.
